The Manchester United coach admits that his defenders are very weak.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that his team’s defense in the 2: 1 loss against Istanbul Baaksehir in the Champions League made unforgivable mistakes, but rejected suggestions that he risks losing his job.
The extremely poor performance of United’s defense in the first half enabled the Turkish team to create a 2-0 advantage, and despite Anthony Martial’s goal shortly before the break between the parts, the English giant was not able to avoid defeat.
Solskjaer has admitted that his team is having a hard time finding positive results, at a time when it is in 15th position in the Premier League.
Speaking after losing in the Champions League on Wednesday, Solskjaer said: “Our performance was not good enough against a team that worked and ran.”
“They scored twice through counterattacks, just like teams do in Europe sometimes when you are not defending well.” he added.
“In the first goal we forgot the striker leaving him alone and this is unforgivable. We conceded two goals and then we did not do enough to get back in the game in the second half.” he underlined.
Asked if he feared dismissal, Solskjaer said: “I refuse to comment on that. Of course it is too early and there are such thoughts all the time.”
