Former Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves has no doubt that Donny van de Beek will become part of the Red Devils’ first team, suggesting he could have an impact similar to Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller.
Van de Beek completed a move to Old Trafford over the summer after United beat Real Madrid in the race to sign the Ajax star.
Since the transfer to Old Trafford, the Dutchman has had a limited impact, being locked in on the bench while continuing to host his first game as a Premier League starter.
The midfielder had the opportunity to appear as a starter in the Champions League on Wednesday in the 5-0 victory of RB Leipzig before clearing the place for Bruno Fernandes.
And while he is still struggling to show his best form in those few opportunities he has had so far for United, Hargreaves believes it is only a matter of time before he becomes an undisputed part of Ole Gunnar’s plans. Solskjaer.
“I think he is a really good player. He has not had the opportunity to show it. He can be like Thomas Muller for Bayern Munich.” Hargreaves told BT Sport.
“Everyone tried to get Thomas Muller out of the team, but once he comes in, you can’t get him out because in terms of goals, assists, he’s very selfless, he can crush the ball, he works in a midfield with three and can play as 8 or 10 players”.
“Van de Beek is one of those… that once he joins the team, Ole will find it difficult to get him out.” concluded the former English star.
