Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos has revealed that Real Madrid asked him to stay at the club this season before returning to England on a loan deal.
The Spaniard returned to the Londoners with a one-season loan deal this summer after a successful 2019-20 period at the club, while revealing that Los Blancos executives asked him to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“I spoke to Real Madrid and told them that Mikel Arteta wanted me to return. They asked me to wait, but I was clear that I wanted to go back to my club, where I had found my best level.” Ceballos initially explained to Marca.
“You sit down to assess that the Euro and the Olympics are coming and you know you have to play an important role to be invited to the national team.”
“With Mikel I found happiness as a player and as a person. And this is essential for a player.” concluded the Spaniard.
It had seemed increasingly difficult that he would be part of the first team squad at Los Blancos, in part because of his frozen relationship with coach Zinedine Zidane.
