Lewandowski is named UEFA Player of the Year

The 32-year-old striker scored 55 goals in the 2019-20 season and defeated Manuel Neuer and Kevin De Bruyne for this award.

Robert Lewandowski was named UEFA Player of the Year on Thursday while Champions League winner Bayern Munich won most of the awards for best footballer from Bayern Munich.

The 32-year-old has scored 55 goals in 47 games, including 15 of 10 in the Champions League, while teammates Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich as well as manager Hansi Flick have also won individual awards. Neuer and Kevin De Bruyne were also in contention for the best player award.

“I want to say it’s amazing,” Lewandowski said. “It’s amazing, if you work so hard and get this trophy, it’s special.”

“I want to thank my teammates, coaches, all the staff because they have worked hard, every day to prepare me for these games and also my family for the great support they give me.”

“I have always dreamed of playing in big stadiums in the biggest clubs in the world. “I am very happy and very proud and very happy.”

Pernille Harder, who has joined Chelsea, has received the award as the best UEFA footballer for her performances with Wolfsburg. The German team was defeated in the Champions League final by Lyon but Harder defeated the pair of Lyon, Wendie Renard and Lucy Bronze to receive the award.

The season in Europe, Manchester City ended with disappointment again but De Bruyne won the award for best midfielder, beating Thiago and Thomas Muller, while another Lyon star for women, German Marozsan received the award as the best midfielder in the women competition.

In addition to this award, Lewandowski has also won the striker of the season award, having scored 15 goals in this competition. Harder on the other hand, received this award from the women after scoring nine goals and leading her team to the final.

Bayern coach Flick had little name until this season but he has received the award as the best coach after winning the treble.
