Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has insisted that there is no conflict between him and captain Lionel Messi, following the decision of the club legend to change his mind and stay at the Camp Nou.
Messi informed Barcelona that he wanted to leave the club after the 2019/20 season, which was extremely disappointing and depressing for him as Barca failed to win even a single trophy and were embarrassed 8: 2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
However, the 33-year-old changed his mind and decided to stay in the end, in order to avoid the legal battle with the club he loves.
Messi is back in training to prepare for the new season, which is the last in his current deal with the club. Therefore the future of the Argentine is in doubt.
Koeman, who was brought to the Camp Nou to replace Quique Setieni after the defeat against Bayern, has said that any conflict that exists is between the player and the club and that he and Messi have spoken often since the Argentine decided to stay at the Camp Nou.
“It was a conflict between Messi and the club. I have spoken to Messi since then and we will continue as usual.” Koeman told Fox Sports.
“We are working on the new season and I say we will do it with this group of players with whom we are preparing,” he underlined.
