Lionel Messi’s father and manager, Jorge, has hinted that his son will remain in Barcelona until the summer of 2021.
Jorge arrived in Barcelona from Argentina on Wednesday and held a nearly two-hour meeting with Barca president Josep Bartomeu.
Jorge Messi told reporters after arriving in Barcelona that he did not know what would happen to his son’s future. But things seem to have changed after meeting Bartomeu.
Messi has spent his entire career at the Camp Nou. He has broken countless records in the Barcelona jersey.
His father told Mediaset that talks with Barcelona have gone well and that there is a possibility of reaching an agreement for Messi to continue to be the player of the Catalan giant.
Asked if the six-time Golden Ball winner could remain at the Camp Nou until the end of his current deal with the club in 2021, Jorge said: “Yes.”
New Barca coach Ronald Koeman has said he wants to build the team around Messi.
