Rivaldo: It would be a big blow if Messi leaves Barcelona without money

Former Barcelona star Rivaldo believes the Blaugrana will want to get some sort of transfer fee if Lionel Messi leaves the Camp Nou this summer.

The 33-year-old Argentine informed Barcelona of his intention to leave on Tuesday night, which caused shock all over the world.

“At a time when every club is facing difficulties due to the pandemic, it would be a big blow for Barcelona to lose their biggest star without receiving any payment,” Rivaldo initially told Betfair.

“This is the biggest obstacle for an immediate departure for Messi because Barcelona will want to get at least some money.”

“It will be a sad end to Messi’s history with Barcelona if things stay that way, but this is football and sometimes things don’t go our way.”

“Manchester City could be Messi’s best option as his next club.”

“He is 33 years old, but his quality and talent are indisputable, and I think he still has a few more years at the helm of world football.”

“He could quickly start to shine in England,” concluded the Brazilian legend.
