Barcelona center-back Samuel Umtiti has revealed that he had considered leaving the club in recent months, but says he is determined to ensure his departure in better conditions.
After failing to win a trophy last season, Barcelona embarked on major changes in the summer, starting with the appointment of Ronald Koeman as coach and Lionel Messi’s request to leave.
While Messi finally stayed, Umtiti was also tempted to leave.
He joined Barca from Lyon in 2016, but frequent injuries and poor form have ruined his career in Spain.
“Everything was possible during the summer. Lyon is my club and city. They gave me the opportunity to be seen by others.” said Umtiti.
“There were talks, but they happened quickly, in the end nothing concrete. I will be honest, Barcelona is Barcelona. I do not want to leave, much less this way.” he added.
