Karim Benzema has been open to the media and has spoken about the selfless role he adopted while playing with Cristiano Ronaldo as Real Madrid’s attacking partner.
Despite being number 9 and the man leading the attack, for years the former Lyon star was a supporter of five-time Golden Ball winner Ronaldo.
Out of Ronaldo’s 450 goals for Los Blancos, the underrated Benzema assisted 47 of them and proved to be an excellent partner for the Portuguese striker.
However, the 32-year-old has admitted that he had to adapt his game for the good of Ronaldo, who did what he does and scored a barrage of goals.
“In Lyon I played in a different way. Now I’m free on the field, I like to touch the ball. “With Cristiano I changed my style, I played for him”, Benzema initially said for Movistar +.
“I thought it would not cost me anything, I just had to change my way of playing and pass the ball more to Ronaldo.”
“I set aside the goal of my goals”, concluded the French star
In Ronaldo’s last season in the Spanish capital, Benzema scored just five goals in 32 appearances, but when the Portuguese transferred to Juventus in 2018, the Frenchman grew and became Real’s main source of goals.
With Ronaldo in Turin, he scored 21 goals in two consecutive seasons in La Liga and helped Zinedine Zidane’s team win its 34th title in the Spanish league.
