Portugal coach after Ronaldo tested positive: Cristiano wants to play

Portugal coach Fernando Santos has said that Cristiano Ronaldo is doing very well and that he is desperately looking to get back on the field.

Ronaldo will be a big absence for Portugal against Sweden in the League of Nations match on Wednesday night.

The Juventus striker tested positive on Tuesday night and will be out for two weeks as a result.

The 35-year-old has no symptoms of the virus and is following protocol, which means he is self-isolated and unable to play, but his coach Santos said Ronaldo can hardly wait to get back on the field.

“He says he just wants to play.” Santos told a pre-match press conference.

“Every player who is missing is a big absence and Ronaldo’s absence is even bigger. But I have a lot of confidence in the players who will play.” he added.
