Juventus center-back Giorgio Chiellini has revealed that he did not have high expectations for French midfielder Paul Pogba when the latter was transferred to Allianz in 2012 from Manchester United. Paul Pogba went to Juventus from Manchester United as a free transfer, during the summer of 2012. Through his appearances at the Allianz Stadium, he managed to gain the status of one of the best midfielders in European football.
Pogba returned to Manchester United for 105 million euros in August 2016, but he has recently been rumored to have a potential return to the “Old Lady”. Chiellini, in his autobiographical book, recalled his first meeting with Pogban in August 2012 and shared his first impressions of the Frenchman.
“I remember when he came. Three or four days after we all got together in camp, my teammates and I looked at each other and thought, “This guy is really good,” Chiellini wrote.
“He came as a free transfer from Manchester United. He was very young and we thought he was the kind of player who just goes through the squad, who was one of those players that clubs only get enough to use during the transfer window.
“However, no one expected him to be the champion. Paul moved with his gorgeous physique, was magical and extremely impressive. And keep in mind that in the first games he played out of his best position, he played in front of the defense to ease the burden on Andrea Pirlos “.
