Belgium renews coach Martinez’s contract

The coach of the Belgian national team, Roberto Martinez, has signed a new contract with the Belgian national team, at the head of which he will be until the end of the “Qatar 2022” World Cup. Roberto Martinez, who previously coached Swansea, Wigan and Everton, took over the leadership of the Belgian national team in August 2016.

The Spanish strategist’s initial deal would expire at the end of the 2020 European Championship – which has already been postponed to the summer of 2021. However, his contract has already been renewed for another two years. The 46-year-old has confirmed several times in recent months that his desire is to stay in the Belgian coach’s chair – at least for the European Championships, where Belgium will face Denmark, Finland and Russia in Group B.

Belgium are currently ranked as the best national team in the world, according to the FIFA rankings, while in the European Championship they qualified by winning all ten matches played – with a record of 40 goals scored and only three goals conceded. Meanwhile, at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Martinez had led Belgium to the semifinals of the tournament. To win the bronze medal of the competition, Belgium had defeated England in the match for third place.
