“Bundesliga’s start without fans is not ideal, but necessary”

The executive director of the German Football League, Christian Seifert, said that resuming the Bundesliga championship with the matches that will take place behind closed doors was the only way to save the endangered clubs and the format of the top two leagues.

On Wednesday morning, it was reported that the return of the Bundesliga had been postponed by Angela Merkel for at least until May 22, after the clubs were asked to be quarantined for another two weeks before they could start the matches, Gazeta Express reports. .

However, the German government later approved the Bundesliga’s plan to return to the green field in the second half of May, following a series of meetings that ended today.

It is now up to the Federation itself, the league and the clubs to decide on the exact date of return to the green field, but the German media report that this is most likely to happen on May 15.

“Today’s decision is good news for the Bundesliga and the Bundesliga 2. It is linked to the great responsibility for clubs and their workers to implement medical and organizational requirements in a disciplined manner,” Seifert said.

“Fans without fans in the stadium are not ideal for anyone. However, during a crisis that threatens the existence of some clubs, it is the only way to maintain the current league format.

Germany’s elite football league, which was suspended in mid-March, is now expected to become the first of Europe’s top five leagues to resume, despite matches being played behind closed doors.

Most Bundesliga clubs have been in training since last month, and matches have been suspended since March, when almost all sports activities in the world were suspended.
