Interim Barcelona president: “Messi will not be treated differently for salary cuts”

Lionel Messi will not have more special treatment as Barcelona is negotiating to reduce the salaries of footballers after the crisis caused by the pandemic, says the interim president, Carles Tusquets.

There will be no special treatment for Lionel Messi.

Barca is negotiating with footballers and everyone at the club to reduce salaries, after the crisis, a pandemic that has paralyzed the whole world.

Like other footballers, Leo must accept that until everything stabilizes, and the return of fans and football to normal days begins, he will accept the salary reduction.

“I think we can reach an agreement. It seems to me that there is a willingness to do so. We do not want to take money from anyone, but adjust wages so that we can pay them when possible – this is the solution we think is the most valuable given the circumstances.”

“We can not do something just like [Messi] wanted. We can create different structures for similar cases, but we can not make agreements for individuals.”

“We aim to resolve the issue with all staff and all employees and will do everything possible to ensure that everyone is satisfied.”

“Depending on the money available, we know that our income will fall by about 300 million euros if the stadiums are not opened soon. Even if they do open, they will not be fully open this season.”
