Luis Suarez has said that he was part of the plans of Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman, insisting that the club had decided to fire him, because, as he says, it is a close friend of Lionel Messi.
Suarez joined Atletico Madrid last month, leaving Barcelona after a full seven years as the third best goal scorer in the history of the Catalan giants.
The Uruguayan striker insists he was on the plans of new Barca coach Koeman, despite media reports that the Dutchman had shown him the door.
“Koeman told me that I would not leave the club and that I was in his plans.” Suarez told ESPN.
“It was not the coach who got rid of me, it was the club directors. It bothered them that I was Messi’s friend. They used to complain that Messi did not get along well with the other strikers at the club and when he gets along well with one of them, they get rid of him.”
Suarez added: “I do not understand why they separated us. I had no influence on Messi’s decisions. “
