Barcelona has started legal proceedings to reduce the salaries of footballers for the second time within the year, due to the financial impact of the pandemic.
Ronald Koeman’s team members have been asked to choose a representative to talk to the leaders of the Business Committee about the pay cut.
Following the state of emergency declared by the Spanish state in early 2020, due to the pandemic, Barca had applied for a salary reduction in ERTE (the regulation for temporary employment).
In accordance with the measures, the players had agreed to a pay cut.
Thanks to the reduction of players’ salaries, part of the team staff had received full salaries without deduction.
However, Barcelona’s economic situation has deteriorated in recent months, and the club has no choice but to apply for another ERTE.
The Catalan club has declared in its financial condition, together with the debt of 488 million euros, and a loss of 97 million euros.
To avoid the situation of players leaving, Barcelona has started to have contacts with each of the players to reach an agreement.
