Cannavaro: Football in Italy is religion, faith and passion

Former Sassuolo’s defender Paolo Cannavaro says football is a religion, faith and passion in Italy, so he has called for the current Serie A season to resume as soon as possible. The 38-year-old, who retired from football in January 2018, insists that the right decision would be to complete the 2019/20 season.

“I am for the resumption of the season. It is better to end this season than to start a new one. Football gives life to many people. Therefore, it must be restored, “said Cannavaro.

Cannavaro, who now works as an assistant to his older brother and former Italian captain Fabio, points out that Italy needs football.

“The truth is that football in Italy is a religion, a belief and a passion that cannot be stopped by anyone. If most of the country wants to talk about football, it’s nobody’s fault. “Football is the engine that drives Italy forward,” he added.
