Jose Mourinho has praised Welsh star Gareth Bale for what he said was the professionalism shown since joining him at Tottenham, and underlined that Real Madrid had difficulty winning European trophies before joining the club.
Speaking at a press conference before Tottenham’s match against Antwerp in the Europa League, Mourinho insisted that Bale had made the difference at Real Madrid.
“Reputation is one thing, while facts are another. I would like to have his reputation and his four trophies in the Champions League. I only have two.” Mourinho said about Bale.
He added: “The fact is that Gareth has made a difference at Real Madrid. It was a club that, for more than a decade, did not even reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League, and then made the big leap. When they took him (Bale), they won four trophies in five years.”
The Portuguese coach also spoke about his impact after returning to Tottenham.
“He is working hard. It is setting an example for everyone. As the big player that is though he traveled to Burnley on Monday, he stayed on the bench for 90 and did not play at all but made no sound. His behavior on the team is extraordinary.”
