5 substitutions during a match also in the 2020/21 season
Due to the busy schedule, UEFA has decided that even this season in the matches of European competitions, Champions League and Europa League, the rule of 5 substitutions during a match will be applied.
At the meeting of the UEFA executive committee it was decided to keep the rule of 5 substitutions in force, although initially it was discussed about a return to the original rule of only 3 substitutions, in the end it was decided for 5 substitutions.
The same rule has been maintained by some important leagues, while there are leagues like the Premier League that have returned to the rule of 3 substitutions.
